About

Having two English majors for parents, I was pretty much born into writing, although it helps that I do genuinely enjoy the craft. I’ve been writing ever since I was a kid, and it’s one of my core passions in life. That passion also includes:

  • A nerdy fondness for typography

  • A love affair with the Chicago Manual of Style

  • A fierce affection for the Oxford comma

Those are the important things about me as a writer, but if you want more, check out the sections below.

  • I began my undergraduate career at Valdosta State University, which I attended for a year and a half before transferring to the University of Georgia, where I earned my B.A. in 2013. I graduated with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on Professional, Creative, and Dramatic Writing—my degree essentially allowed me to combine English and Theatre to focus on the different forms of writing, which culminated in a thesis project that examined adaptation theory and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

I completed my M.A. at Carnegie Mellon University in 2015, with a degree in Professional Writing. My master’s program provided exposure to a wide range of writing and communications across industries, including technical writing, healthcare communications, organizational communications, literary journalism, web design, and document design. In addition to my graduate coursework, I completed two internships and two student assistantships.

  • After earning my M.A. in Professional Writing at Carnegie Mellon, I was hired at TiER1 Performance, where I started as an instructional designer and learning consultant. Through my work, I got to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, consult directly with clients, and interview subject matter experts (SMEs) from dozens of different industries, all to effectively help workers excel at their jobs. I eventually took on the additional role of a knowledge coordinator to organize our company’s internal knowledge about our products and offerings.

I started getting interested in User Experience through my work at TiER1, and in 2021 I completed a certificate in UX Design from BrainStation; from there, I obtained my current job with Omatic Software, where I work as a UX writer and content strategist, although I also do actual design work to help make our product more intuitive and user-friendly while integrating new features.

  • When I’m not doing my own creative writing, dabbling in graphic design work, reading a novel, or cooking a new recipe, you can usually find me outdoors doing some kind of physical activity! An avid runner, I’ve completed two full marathons and (at last count) 12 half marathons. I also love going for a good hike and communing with nature, whether that’s through camping, paddle boarding in the summer, or snowshoeing in the winter.
